New York Film Festival to honor Kristen Stewart and Adam Driver at this year’s festival

The New York Film Festival’s Special Events section always lives up to its name, and this year is no different. The lineup for the 54th edition of the festival is anchored by conversations with Kristen Stewart and Adam Driver as part of our “An Evening With…” benefit series.

FilmLinc : Special Events will feature the world premiere of Lonny Price’s Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened, a nonfiction account of Stephen Sondheim and Harold Prince’s 1981 musical-flop-turned-cult-favorite Merrily We Roll Along, with Price and theater luminary Sondheim in person. Thirty-five years later in the world of musicals, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton is a Broadway sensation. Alex Horwitz’s Hamilton’s America goes behind the history of the Tony- and Pulitzer Prize–winning production, and makes its world premiere at NYFF with the director and special guests to be announced. The Film Society will do outreach to young audiences for the screening, which debuts in advance of its PBS Great Performances broadcast on October 21. Festival veteran Jim Jarmusch brings a second film to NYFF (in addition to Main Slate selection Paterson) with the U.S. premiere of Gimme Danger, a documentary chronicling the history of legendary proto-punk band The Stooges. Jarmusch and Stooges front man Iggy Pop will appear in person for the screening.

#BillyLynn to have its World Premiere at the 54th New York Film Festival

FilmInc : Ang Lee’s highly anticipated Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk will screen as a Special World Premiere Presentation of the 54th New York Film Festival on Friday, October 14, at AMC Lincoln Square (1998 Broadway, New York, NY 10023).

New York Film Festival Director and Selection Committee Chair Kent Jones said, “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk astonished me, and it moved me deeply—in the grandest way, as a story of America in the years after the invasion of Iraq, and on the most intimate person-to-person wavelength. Ang Lee has always gone deep into the nuances of the emotions between his characters, and that’s exactly what drove him to push cinema technology to new levels. It’s all about the faces, the smallest emotional shifts. In every way, Billy Lynn is the work of a master.”

Kristen Stewart, the Good Bad Girl

You know the actress from her films. The real Kristen Stewart — funny and fiercely open — is only just emerging. That took years of work.

New York Times : It’s hard to not be charmed by Kristen Stewart’s Los Feliz home, even harder to believe that it belongs to a movie star and not a college freshman. The basement den of her four-bedroom property, which hovers above Los Angeles — at once belonging to and separate from the hazy city below it — is a study in random: a stop sign on one wall, three metal letters — A, S and S — on another, a Batman action figure, a Winnie the Pooh-themed Pez dispenser, a Playboy pinball machine. The room’s centerpiece, an imposing bookcase, is packed with fashion tomes, a few to do with Chanel, for whom she models; monographs featuring the work of Basquiat, Eggleston and Mapplethorpe; books about food, travel and the Beatles; and novels by Dostoyevsky, Hesse and Kafka. A chunk of shelf is devoted to Jack Kerouac, whose character Marylou she played in a film version of “On the Road.”
